London on-the-cheap? They seem to think it's possible!

Harrods of Knightsbridge est. 1834
A popular and famous shopping center. You think IKEA is enormous? The Mall of America? You haven't been to Harrods. Ok. It's smaller than the MOA, but not in attitude!

I bought tea for my mother here...it's all I could afford and it travels well. Their food market is impressive, it's most certainly worth a visit even if shopping isn't your thing.

I'm a fan of Montemartre and the Latin Quarter...so that's where I'm going during free time. There's a delicious crepe stand in Montemartre right amidst a bevy of market stands and artisans. I purchased a scarf last time I was there and plan to do it again this time. The view from Montemartre and Le Sacre Coer is also simply breathtaking...as is the stairway that one takes to reach the summit. Outstanding.

The Latin Quarter boasts lively entertainment, shops, people-watching, excellent food, and best of all, stunning views of Notre Dame. Shoot for enjoying sunset at a cafe across the Seine from the cathedral -- you'll see it change color, I promise.

A movie that ranks among my favorites is Amelie. Here is one of the best clips from that movie. She is escorting a blind man through the streets of Paris. What I love about it is the detail she captures that allows him to experience the buzzing activity and life of the presumably ordinary street it in a profound way.

I'm so excited to see Rome again. Italy will always have a special place in my heart as the first taste of Europe I ever had. Rome is fast-paced, large, busy, and a little overwhelming. It's an international cosmopolitan city. McDonalds and Starbucks here and there, small cars up on sidewalks and virtually no traffic laws, or so it seems. I'll never forget seeing a little black Fiat hit reverse on a freeway because he missed his exit.

Vatican City is quite an experience as well. I'm not Catholic, but  the tradition and history that place represents is something to be marveled. The art and architecture alone is captivating. The Sistine Chapel is breathtaking -- and so is the arsenal of camera-laden tourists blatantly disregarding the rules. Don't be one of them. The rules are no talking and no pictures. Two rules. If you are one of the masses who breaks one of those rules, I will smack you and give you to the gypsy children.
